The Annual Concert 2023, one of the long-standing music extravaganzas of the school, was held successfully at the Sha Tin Town Hall on 2nd May.
Four student emcees, Tonie Ngai (2D), Demi Lau (4C), Ryan Lee (5A), and Zoey Chan (5B), kicked off the showcase by introducing the UCCxUCCKE Joint School Wind Band. The band’s performance was followed by a series of the orchestra, string orchestra, hand chime ensemble, and percussion ensemble. A standout marimba and violin duet delivered by Jan Chow from 4A and Yip Ngai Hin from 4B also left the audience in awe. Not to mention the singing of the UCC Choir, Class 2C and 5A (champions of the inter-class singing competition), and the alumni a cappella group further enraptured the audience. Lastly, the teachers’ choir brought the concert to a close with their moving performance.
“The Annual Concert is not only a tradition of UCC but also a stage for students to showcase their musical talents,” said Principal Mr Simon Lau.
Ms Chan Tik Mei, the concert director, added, “Performers spent a long time rehearsing and preparing for the concert since December last year. Without the support and dedication of the teachers, staff and students, the event would not be successful. In fact, for most of the students, it was their first time performing on stage after the epidemic. Through this, we hope not only did they gain valuable experience and confidence, but also to encourage more students to learn and appreciate music.”
While returning to Sha Tin Town Hall, a venue the school has used for the annual concert for years, was a nostalgic experience for many teachers and alumni in attendance, the concert was undoubtedly a night to remember for all.
