Our school has done some research on food waste among students eating out during lunch hours. It is found that there is too much waste and leftovers. Therefore, our school plans to ask all students to bring lunchboxes to school. However, I do not think it can help to reduce the amount of food waste. It may even produce more problems which is harmful to students.
The first reason of opposing to ask all students to bring lunchboxes to school is, students will be tired of the food easily. If all students are asked to bring lunchboxes to school, they can only have the food prepared by their parents every lunch. If some of their parents also cook dinner for them, that means almost every day and every meal is made by the same person. Students will eventually hate the food. As a result, it produces more food wastes as students dislike the food. Therefore, students should not bring lunchboxes to school.
Another reason is that, some parents cannot make lunchboxes for their children. Some parents are busy in their business or work. Therefore, they will not be free to cook for their children in the morning. If our school requires students to bring lunchboxes, the parents may only buy food from restaurants and put it into lunchboxes. The food waste problem cannot be solved.
Everyone knows that, students should use the microwave oven to reheat the food at lunchtime. This creates a problem that students need to wait and queue up to use the microwave oven. It wastes students’ time. Our school also does not have enough microwave ovens for the whole school. Therefore, our school should not ask all students to bring lunchboxes to school.
In conclusion, if the school asks students to bring lunchboxes, students will be tired of the food and hence produce more food waste. Some parents will buy takeaway from restaurants and this cannot help reduce food waste. Also, students will need to waste time for heating the food. Therefore, our school should not ask all students to bring lunchboxes to school.
