Nowadays, people usually like to bury themselves in smartphones and other devices. There is beyond doubt that technology has become part of our daily lives. To keep up with this trend, everyone must own one and that’s why technology has become so prevalent. On one hand, technology really brings numerous benefits to our lives. On the other hand, there are some arguments that justify how technology has made people lazy.
To commence with, technology encourages us to spend more time at home. With technology, we can simply get all the entertainment we want without having to leave the couch. Everything that we could ever want in terms of movies, games and TV shows are accessible right in our living room. It used to be that we had to go out to a movie theatre to see the latest movies. Nevertheless, streaming services like Netflix have completely changed our viewing patterns. In addition, we used to go outside to get some exercise. However, there are video games that allow us to do exercise right in the comfort of our own home. As a result, it makes us lead a sedentary lifestyle since we can basically do everything without leaving our couch. It’s really bad for our health.
Moreover, we can speak with our loved ones without having to move. We don’t even have to go over to our loved one’s house to talk to them anymore. No matter where we are in the world, we can speak with our friends and family members over the phone or by texting. With texting and instant messaging, it’s super easy to stay connected with your loved ones without even stepping out of your home. Thus, it discourages face-to-face interaction with others but simply rely on talking online.
Technology might have its downsides but considering its convenience and accessibility, we also have to acknowledge its upsides.
To start with, technology makes our lives easier. With the help of technology, we can actually do most of the daily activities by staying at home. For instance, if we feel bored, there are numerous channels on television for us to select or even play virtual sports with the large screen right in front of you. Additionally, it is easy and convenient to purchase trendy and updated goods we want from shopping online and pay for these items in a quick and simple way. Therefore, we don’t even need to take out time to travel to our destination.
Although technology may discourage face-to-face interaction, in reality it actually improves our communication. The continuous advances in technology have led to the appearance of numerous new methods of electronic communication, such as social networking websites, emails and video conferences.
These tools have helped us eliminate time and distance factors. This is beneficial not only to our personal relationships, but it also gives us the opportunity to communicate with others, from different countries and learn about different cultures.
Considering the both sides of the issue, technology can benefit our lives but also bring drawbacks at the same time.
